PBTRC was invited by our partners at Kupuna Connections to wrap up their month-long community wellness series on Kauaʻi, and the Līhuʻe community showed up with open hearts and a hunger to learn.
What began as a training for twenty kupuna quickly grew beyond capacity, with kupuna eager to practice, ask questions, and take the next step toward digital confidence. We were also joined by a group of local students who supported and learned alongside our kupuna, creating a powerful moment of intergenerational learning and community pride.

Together, we focused on making telehealth simple, comfortable, and familiar. We:
- Explored different patient portals
- Practiced joining a video visit
- Checked camera, audio, and microphone settings
- Troubleshot common telehealth issues
- Reviewed safe ways to store usernames, passwords, and important links
The room was full of curiosity, courage, and laughter, proof that when you create a welcoming space and take time to learn together, technology becomes less intimidating and much more empowering.
Following the group session, kupuna stayed for one-on-one help. We talked story, downloaded apps, completed portal registrations, and made sure participants left feeling confident and ready to connect to their care teams with ease.
At the end of the day, it wasn’t about the tech. It was about helping kupuna feel supported, capable, and ready to take control of their care in a digital world.
