In August 2025, PBTRC partnered with federally funded Telehealth Resource Centers, academic institutions, and regional organizations to deliver the Healthcare AI Bootcamp, a national series focused on building foundational AI literacy across the healthcare workforce.
Through a mix of virtual sessions and a culminating hybrid event connecting Honolulu, Los Angeles, and a national online audience, participants explored practical applications of artificial intelligence, emerging regulatory considerations, and ethical frameworks to support responsible adoption in healthcare settings.
The series brought together national experts and local leaders to examine AI readiness, risk and accountability, workforce impacts, and the role of healthcare professionals as AI ambassadors. Hawai‘i’s in-person session at the University of Hawai‘i’s Shidler College of Business, Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship (PACE) emphasized hands-on learning, culturally grounded innovation, and the importance of maintaining human connection, data transparency, and equity as AI tools are integrated into care delivery. Interactive activities and panel discussions highlighted how AI can help address workforce shortages, improve access, and support community-centered solutions across Hawai‘i and the Pacific.

Together, the Healthcare AI Bootcamp reinforced a shared commitment to advancing “AI with Aloha”—ensuring that technology strengthens care while remaining ethical, inclusive, and rooted in local values.
